The Great Story about Gregory Harris


Author’s Note: This book could make you think about your grades more than sports because if you don’t get good grades you can’t play that sport.

Narrative: Greg has trouble keeping his grades good to play basketball also puts him more behind because he change schools.

The can book titled “Slam” by Walter Dean Meyers helps people think how important your grades are and how school comes before sports.
Gregory Harris lives in a bad neighborhood with his brother and his mom this book could help on to focus on your grades and school because Greg gets bad grades in art. His principle told him he might have to drop basketball because of getting bad grades. That night his mom went and talked to him about what the principle said. His mom gave ideas to what to do some of them were to drop the class or to stop playing basketball until he gets his grades up and he said he would drop the art class. Before he went to bed he thought what his mom and the principle it ran through his head and kept coming back to his head. The next day after school he tried out for basketball but he was late and the coaches let him try out to see how he was. He sat on the side lines and waited for the coaches to tell him to come in he also met some friends on the team one of the players on the team is Nick he asked Greg what’s his name and Greg said “Gregory but call me Slam”. How Gregory got bad grades was because he got an  also he moved schools so that got him more behind in all of his classes.   
The day after the principal calls Greg to his office again because the he wanted to see how he’s doing and Greg said “I’m doing ok”. Then the principal asked if he told his mom about his grades and he said yes that his mom told him to study more or drop basketball and he said that he would study more. His principle said good choice because you have good talent and you love to play the sport and the principle told Greg thank you for coming to my office. After that day was done he went home and did homework for art after he did his homework he went and ate dinner with his mom and brother. After dinner he talked to his mom and then went to bed. Ducky is one of Greg’s friends on the basketball team their lockers are right next to each other. Ducky thinks that he and Greg are really good friends but not as much but he’s cool” says Greg.
On a warm Saturday morning Greg walks around the neighborhood the lottery was up to 20 million dollars all over people were talking about that. Billy Gilles the guy who owns the bike shop is selling a lightweight bike only weighing fifteen pounds. Greg said to himself “if a car hits you will go flying of the bike. After he left the bike shop past the park and saw a couple guys playing dominoes and it looked like they’re having a good time then he saw a girl selling sold jazz records. But Greg keeps walking and doesn’t bother talking to the guys playing dominoes when Greg keeps walking he here somebody yelling Slam he turns around and sees ice one of his friends and teammates Greg says “hey what’s going on” nothing much” just going to the store to get some stuff says ice” ok see you tomorrow said Greg.
